1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how Dumpling handles information when you use the Dumpling iOS app. It applies to the app, its settings, optional import and capture features, purchase access features, analytics, and crash reporting.

2. Information You Create In Dumpling

Dumpling lets you create and manage recipe-related content, including:

  • recipes, recipe versions, change notes, categories, tags, links, and source notes;
  • recipe images and ingredient photos you choose or capture;
  • stored ingredients, shopping items, catalog entries, quantities, units, and notes;
  • timers, cooking logs, satisfaction ratings, and cooking memos;
  • settings such as storage location, notification preferences, and purchase access state.

This content is stored locally on your device or in the iCloud Drive folder you select. Dumpling does not operate a separate server for syncing or hosting your personal recipe library.

3. Storage And iCloud Drive

Dumpling supports local storage and a user-selected iCloud Drive folder. Local storage stays inside the app's container on the device. If you choose iCloud Drive, the folder is managed through your Apple ID, iCloud settings, and Apple's iCloud Drive service.

If you edit Dumpling files outside the app, Dumpling will try to read supported files, but malformed or missing files may need recovery. Changing storage locations does not automatically move existing files.

4. Optional Permissions

Permission Why Dumpling Uses It What Happens If You Decline
Camera and Photos To let you attach recipe images, capture ingredient photos, or review photo-based ingredient drafts. You can still create recipes and ingredients manually.
Microphone and Speech Recognition To turn spoken shopping or ingredient notes into editable quick-add drafts. You can use typed quick-add or manual entry instead.
Notifications To alert you when timers end, if you choose to enable timer alerts. You can still run timers in the app without alerts.
Files and iCloud Drive Folder Access To read and write recipe files in the folder you select. You can keep using local storage or choose a folder again later.

5. Speech, Photos, And On-Device Processing

Dumpling may use Apple system frameworks for speech recognition and photo selection. Speech recognition behavior can depend on the device, operating system, locale, and Apple framework availability. Dumpling uses the resulting transcript or photo review output to create editable drafts that you can review before saving.

Dumpling does not upload your recipe library, photos, or spoken shopping lists to a Dumpling-operated server. If a future version adds a third-party cloud import, recognition, or scanning service, this policy should be updated before that feature is released.

6. Analytics And Crash Reporting

Release builds of Dumpling may use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand app behavior, diagnose crashes, and improve reliability. Dumpling is configured without IDFA advertising identifier collection and does not use analytics for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

Analytics and crash reporting may include app version, device model, operating system version, crash traces, performance diagnostics, coarse usage events, and technical metadata needed to diagnose issues. Crash reports may include limited contextual information related to the crash, but Dumpling does not intentionally send your recipe text, ingredient lists, or personal recipe images as analytics events.

Debug builds used during development do not initialize Firebase.

7. Purchases

Dumpling may offer an in-app purchase to unlock Dumpling Unlimited. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. Dumpling receives purchase status information needed to unlock features, but it does not receive your full payment card details.

8. Data Sharing

Dumpling does not sell your personal data. Dumpling may rely on the following service providers or platform services:

  • Apple, for App Store distribution, StoreKit purchases, iCloud Drive, notifications, speech recognition, and system permissions;
  • Firebase and Google, for analytics and crash reporting in release builds.

These providers process information according to their own terms and privacy policies.

9. Data Retention And Deletion

Your recipe library data remains in the storage location you choose until you delete it, remove the app, or remove files from the selected folder. Local app-container data may be deleted when you uninstall the app. iCloud Drive files may remain available according to your iCloud settings.

Analytics and crash-reporting data are retained by Firebase and Google according to their service settings and policies. Purchase records are handled by Apple.

10. Children

Dumpling is not directed to children under 13, and Dumpling does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. International Use

If you use Dumpling outside your country or region, information processed by Apple, Firebase, Google, or other platform services may be transferred and processed in locations where those providers operate.

12. Changes To This Policy

Dumpling may update this Privacy Policy when the app changes, when new services are added, or when legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last updated.
